Chaos at Howe Community Park Results in Four Victims Wounded in the Arden-Arcade Section of Sacramento County
Sacramento County deputies are looking into a gun violence incident that occurred late Saturday at Howe Community Park in the Arden-Arcade area as officers were dispersing an unauthorized event of hundreds of attendees.
How It Started
Deputies were first dispatched to Howe Community Park around half past six in the evening after getting calls of individuals who may have had concealed firearms. Following that, a second caller reported mentioning a reported physical confrontation unfolding at Howe Park.
Air support conducted an aerial sweep but reported no active disturbance. Even so, it was apparent that hundreds of people had assembled at the park without permission.
The Moment Gunfire Erupted
Officers moved to clear the area by encircling the gathering and broadcasting over loudspeakers instructing attendees to leave immediately. Roughly 15 minutes were allotted for people to comply.
While deputies worked to disperse the gathering that upwards of 20 gunshots were fired. The barrage of gunfire sparked chaos as hundreds ran. Responding personnel quickly moved to locating gunshot victims.
Those Who Were Hit
By the time the scene was secured, four shooting victims were discovered with shooting injuries. The victims — a group of one female and three male victims each apparently in their twenties — were transported to hospitals in the Sacramento area. Doctors and nurses indicated that two were treated for serious injuries, one person had injuries of a moderate nature, and one had injuries classified as minor. In a positive development, all four victims survived and were stable.
The Sacramento Metropolitan Fire Department were called to the scene and helped care for shooting victims before they were taken to the hospital.
The Investigation
The primary shooting scene appears to have unfolded near the Cottage Way side of the park adjacent to the Home Depot at the 2200 Howe Avenue block. CSI personnel identified additional shell casings throughout the Cottage Way area. Ballistic damage were observed in the wrought iron perimeter fencing bordering the nearby Home Depot. These discoveries suggested that at least one of the shooters had been discharging rounds toward the south from the Cottage Way area targeting the Home Depot building and parking lot. That Home Depot location was placed on lockdown while the scene was active. Forensic investigators and law enforcement detectives continued working through the early morning hours.
Arrests Made
Details gathered via scanner audio established that a Kia had been stopped in the click here Solano County area. Four people were in the vehicle at the time of the stop. Sheriff's units were dispatched to Solano County to return them to Sacramento for processing in Sacramento County. Video evidence established that the shooting involved two separate gunmen.
